The Preservation Fund project to support the Botanical Gardens in propagating 500 Soufriere Trees (national flower) and 500 Lignum Vitae trees (tree of life) is bearing fruit!!! Presently only one of our national tree which bears our national flower exists in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (at the Botanical Gardens). This sapling is the first reproduction of this tree in recent times. Most Soufriere trees were wiped out in the 1804 hurricane. Teaching children about propagation is a key component of the project. Seen here are children from Head Start Pre School visiting the project with Project Manager, Curator Mr Gordon Shallow.
